Trip Overview
Join us in Egypt in 2027 to experience the most magnificent Total Solar Eclipse of our lifetimes as it sweeps across the Valley of the Nile. Our viewing location aligns with the center line of the eclipse's path to totality. The duration of this eclipse in Luxor, Egypt will be a spectacular 6 minutes and 22 seconds! The next time such a long Total Solar Eclipse will occur is in 2114.
The program begins in London for two nights at The Savoy Hotel. Meet fellow eclipse enthusiasts and private jet travelers at a welcome reception in the library of the Royal Institution. Explore the history of scientific discovery with an exclusive guided tour of the Faraday Museum when it is closed to the public. A panel lecture by professors and scientists from university sponsors who accompany the group will be held in the historic Theatre at the Ri which has long been a stage where some of history’s most brilliant scientific minds presented their groundbreaking work. Discover the origins of timekeeping and the pivotal role London has played in the history of astronomy with a visit to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. Enjoy an evening visit to the Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of science and the oldest continually existing scientific academy in the world, renowned for its contributions to scientific advancement. Attend an enlightening short tour of the history of the Royal Society, highlighting its pivotal role in the history of astronomy and solar eclipses. Then, enjoy a wonderful dinner in the elegant dining room of the Royal Society.
Board your private jet with 80 business class seats and fly directly to Luxor, Egypt where you will embark the luxurious Nile Adventurer which will serve as your floating hotel for three nights. While in Luxor participants will have the opportunity to visit the Valley of the Kings and Tutankhamon’s tomb or Karnak Temple, all in the relative cool of the early morning to avoid the August midday heat.
Observe the eclipse from the top deck of the Nile Adventurer, an ideal location just steps from the food, toilets, and your cabin in the air-conditioned interior of the vessel. After departing Luxor the next morning, our private jet stops at the Sphinx International Airport in Giza near the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum. On a guided tour marvel at the unique Solar Boat and the treasures found in Tut’s tomb. This much anticipated museum is the largest archaeological museum in the world, dedicated to the magnificent history of ancient Egypt. After landing back at London’s Stanstead Airport, transfer back to The Savoy or to a hotel convenient to Heathrow Airport for your return flights home.
A two-night pre-tour extension to Cambridge is also available.

What to Expect
This is a moderately strenuous program that is at times both physically demanding and busy and requires you to be in good health and physical condition. There will be early departures on several days and the program continues into the evening. Daily excursions include visits to one or more sites, and some days can require up to three hours of walking. In Egypt walking is often over loose rocks and uneven sandy or steep terrain where stairs are unavailable or do not have handrails. In Egypt temperatures will likely be over 100 F and very dry. If you rely on a cane or walker, you may not be able to visit all the sites on the program. We request that you notify us in advance of any walking difficulty so that we can review the program in detail with you.
In Egypt there are opportunities to enter tombs, which require stooping and maneuvering down ladders or steep steps, often without handrails. The degree of difficulty will be described in daily briefings, and all activities are optional, so each traveler may choose the activity level that best suits his or her ability.
Travel on land will be by modern air-conditioned motorcoaches, with drives generally 1-2 hours or less at a time. There will be three flights during the program (included in the tour cost) that range from 1.5-5.5 hours in length.
Accommodations in Luxor are aboard a river boat, but this is not a river cruise. The boat will remain stationary, except on the day of the eclipse when it is positioned for optimal viewing of the eclipse.
Note that ideal weather conditions and cloud conditions for viewing the eclipse can change and are not guaranteed. This promises to be a memorable journey, but as with all travel, a flexible attitude, a spirit of adventure, and a willingness to explore new areas will enhance your enjoyment of this program. You do not have to participate in all the scheduled activities, except when traveling to the next destination. We are sure you will be pleased with the exciting educational program provided, but we want you to be aware of the pace and activity level.
