Trip Overview

Sail for ten nights through the storied waters of the Mediterranean aboard the majestic Sea Cloud II, discovering some of the region’s most important cultural and historic treasures. Explore UNESCO World Heritage sites at Delos, Crete, Malta, Agrigento, and Syracuse; wander sun-drenched piazzas and bustling outdoor markets; admire rich museum collections and unique natural wonders; and savor regional cuisines while enjoying the classic maritime style and inspired service of one of the most luxurious sailing vessels afloat.

Midway through the voyage, experience the “Eclipse of the Century” from an exceptional vantage point at sea, as the ship is positioned along the line of maximum totality in open waters, away from land-based obstructions and light pollution, for an astonishing 6 minutes and 6 seconds of darkness.

With insight from expert lecturers, world-class archaeological sites, carefully timed excursions, refreshing swims in turquoise waters, and a refined, intimate shipboard atmosphere—plus optional pre-trip and post-trip extensions in Athens and Malta—this journey promises to be a voyage for the ages

Please note: Ideal weather conditions and cloud conditions for viewing the eclipse can change and are not guaranteed.

Milos, a volcanic island with a dramatic coastline, is known for its role in art history as the discovery site of the Venus de Milo, now in the Louvre. Visit the spot where this iconic statue was found, and the ancient theater overlooking the sea where the island’s once-thriving Hellenistic civilization performed classical dramas. See traditional windmills and visit the picturesque main town. What to Expect

Activity Level 3

activity iconThis is a relaxed-pace program overall, though days can be busy and moderately active. Participants should be in good general health and able to keep pace with the group without assistance from tour staff. To make the most of each destination, shore excursions will involve active exploration, and, on some days, you may spend much of the day off the ship. These days are balanced with relaxing time at sea to enjoy the coastal scenery, the ship’s amenities, a full lecture program, and a special eclipse-viewing experience onboard.

Travel on land will be by modern, air-conditioned motorcoach, with most drives lasting under an hour. Daily activities may include up to two miles of walking. Many tours take place in historic areas where streets are cobblestoned or terrain is uneven, and some historic buildings do not have elevators. Steps without handrails may occasionally be encountered. Please note that the Sea Cloud II does not have an elevator, and guests should be comfortable navigating stairs on a moving ship. Boarding tenders for shore excursions may also require stepping in and out of smaller boats, with staff and crew available to assist.

While not strenuous, guests should be comfortable walking on uneven ground and managing stairs. Expect hot weather and sun exposure during excursions; participants should be prepared with appropriate clothing, sun protection and hydration.

This promises to be a memorable journey. As with all travel, a flexible attitude, a spirit of adventure, and a willingness to explore will enhance your experience. Participation in scheduled activities is optional, except when traveling between destinations, and we hope you’ll enjoy the engaging educational program while feeling well prepared for the overall pace and activity level.

Please note: Ideal weather conditions and cloud conditions for viewing the eclipse can change and are not guaranteed.
