Trip Overview

Join HAA in Egypt in 2027 for the most magnificent Total Solar Eclipse of our lifetimes, with a stunning 6 minutes and 22 seconds of totality in Luxor—an event that won't be repeated until 2114. You'll view the eclipse from a prime location along the center line.

Begin your journey with two nights in London. Enjoy a welcome reception and exclusive tour at the Royal Institution, including a lecture from university scientists. Visit the Royal Observatory in Greenwich to explore London’s astronomical legacy.

Avoid Cairo airport crowds by taking a private jet directly to Giza’s Sphinx International Airport. There, tour the world’s largest museum—Egypt’s new Grand Egyptian Museum—featuring the country’s history from prehistory to Roman times.

Fly by private jet to Luxor for three nights at the Luxor Hilton, ideal for eclipse viewing. Visit ancient sites like the Valley of the Kings and Queens, Tutankhamon’s tomb, and Karnak Temple during the cooler early mornings and evenings.

Return to London by private jet for sightseeing and a visit to the Science Museum. Conclude with an evening at the Royal Society—featuring a tour, talk on the history of solar eclipses, and a celebratory farewell dinner.

Schedule by Day

Depart from your home city on independent flights to London, England.

Arrive in London and transfer to The Savoy Hotel, conveniently located in the West End with views over the Thames River. Gather this evening for a welcome reception at the Royal Institution, an independent charity that has promoted science education and discovery for over 225 years. Tour the Faraday Museum to see the magnetic laboratory where Michael Faraday discovered the magnet-optical effect and diamagnetism, after it is closed to the public. Attend a panel discussion by the trip’s lecturers in the historic Ri Theatre.

Full day tour to the Royal Observatory, the historic home of British astronomy. The Royal Observatory is the oldest scientific institute in Britain and was founded in 1675 by King Charles II. See the world-famous Harrison timekeepers which helped sailors determine their longitude, step inside the dome of the Great Equatorial Telescope which gave astronomers new views of the universe over 100 years ago, stand on the Prime Meridian Line and learn how Greenwich Mean Time was established, and tour the gracious apartments of Flamsteed House where the leading astronomers and their families lived. Nearby in the Royal Naval College see the spectacular Baroque interior of the Painted Hall. The extraordinary ceiling and wall decorations, completed in 1726 after 19 years of work, were originally conceived as a grand dining hall but soon became a ceremonial space. Return to The Savoy for an evening at leisure and dinner on own. Anyone interested in a non-science focused day in London can join a tour of the Tower of London and lunch in Covent Garden.

What to Expect

Activity Level 3

This is a moderately strenuous program that is at times both physically demanding and busy and requires you to be in good health and physical condition. There will be early departures on several days and the program continues into the evening. Daily excursions include visits to one or more sites, and some days can require up to three hours of walking. In Egypt walking is often over loose rocks and uneven sandy or steep terrain where stairs are unavailable or do not have handrails. In Egypt temperatures will likely be over 100 F and very dry. If you rely on a cane or walker, you may not be able to visit all the sites on the program. We request that you notify us in advance of any walking difficulty so that we can review the program in detail with you.

In Egypt there are opportunities to enter tombs, which require stooping and maneuvering down ladders or steep steps, often without handrails. The degree of difficulty will be described in daily briefings, and all activities are optional, so each traveler may choose the activity level that best suits his or her ability.

Travel on land will be by modern air-conditioned motorcoaches, with drives generally 1-2 hours or less at a time. There will be three flights during the program (included in the tour cost) that range from 1.5-5.5 hours in length.

Note that ideal weather conditions and cloud conditions for viewing the eclipse can change and are not guaranteed. This promises to be a memorable journey, but as with all travel, a flexible attitude, a spirit of adventure, and a willingness to explore new areas will enhance your enjoyment of this program. You do not have to participate in all the scheduled activities, except when traveling to the next destination. We are sure you will be pleased with the exciting educational program provided, but we want you to be aware of the pace and activity level.
