Prediction: The Past & Present of the Future
Humans have always been curious about their own futures. Their approach, though, to divining the future has evolved quite a bit over the past four millennia—from carefully examining sheep entrails in ancient Mesopotamia to forecasting the future of Earth, and its climate, with supercomputers today. Alyssa Goodman will offer a whirlwind tour of the future’s past and present, including a few predictions about how AI will help shape what comes next.

Alyssa Goodman, Robert Wheeler Willson Professor of Applied Astronomy

The Rise and Risks of Generative AI: Looking Under the Hood
The rise of generative artificial intelligence has caught the entire world off guard. In this session, Logan McCarty will share how these tools work, their limitations, and the technical and ethical implications of this disruptive technology.
