Trip Overview

The captivating splendor of the Society Islands has long been a muse for artists and authors. Matisse was deeply influenced by "the light and enchantments of the sky," while Michener declared Bora Bora the most beautiful island in the world. The same poetic beauty that inspired Melville, Stevenson, and Gauguin comes alive on this enriching journey, filled with highlights like falling in love with Bora Bora, the "Pearl of the Pacific," during an overnight stay that includes time on a private beach and an inland off-road adventure. Explore Polynesia’s sacred Maohi history at Raiatea’s UNESCO-listed Marae Taputapuātea archaeological site, and delve into Moorea's hypnotic beauty, said to have inspired Michener’s mythical Bali Hai. End your journey with an overnight in Papeete, exploring its vibrant waterfront boulevard and soaking in the allure of French Polynesia.

What to Expect

Activity Level 3

This program involves moderately strenuous activities and long days. Excursions may include rough roads, steep ascents and descents, uneven terrain, and paths that can be rocky or slippery. In certain ports of call we will use a tender to disembark and get to shore and then again to embark back onto the ship – this requires walking down approximately 10 steps and stepping down into the tender assisted by our crew onboard. Some tours involve extended periods of standing, walking up to 2–3 miles a day, or using local transport such as or buses, mini vans, and outrigger canoes to reach remote locations.

Certain activities, such as kayaking, ATV/4x4 rides, or aquatic experiences like waverunners, aquabike scooters, and underwater walks, require physical fitness and may have weight or health restrictions. Guests with back or neck issues, limited mobility, or conditions like asthma, claustrophobia, or motion sickness should review activity details that will be shared in schedules mailings carefully. Some excursions also require signing liability waivers.

Wildlife viewing and water-based activities, such as swimming and snorkeling, are dependent on conditions and may involve small boats without shade. Participants should be prepared for hot, humid, and sunny tropical weather, with temperatures around 80°F.

While many excursions are accessible, some are not recommended for guests with mobility or health limitations. Detailed descriptions and guidelines will be provided prior to the journey. Guests should be prepared to take sunscreen, sunglasses, swimwear, cover-ups, aqua socks or water shoes on tours with them.
