This immersive multi-country journey begins in Dubrovnik, where you’ll trace medieval ramparts and savor the vibrant heritage of Croatia’s stunning Adriatic coast. Travel onwards through Montenegro’s dramatic bays and ancient walled towns, experience Tirana’s lively culture and history beneath the Albanian mountains, and delve into the lakeside treasures of Ohrid in North Macedonia. Continue to Skopje before crossing into Kosovo for firsthand stories, then return to explore Skopje’s bazaars and Ottoman bridges. Fly to dynamic Belgrade to unravel Serbian history, vibrant bohemian quarters, and fortress views, then wind through the mountains to Sarajevo, a city shaped by Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and modern events. Along the way, enjoy lectures, local guest encounters, and memorable meals, with each day offering a deeper connection to the complex history, art, and resiliency of the Balkans.

Upon arrival in Dubrovnik, proceed through local immigration and customs. Afterward, transfer to the city and check in at your hotel. Take some time to rest and refresh from your journey. In the evening, gather with your group for a Welcome Dinner.

What to Expect

Activity Level 3

This trip is active due to the substantial distances covered and extensive walking, including some stair climbing. It is not wheelchair accessible. To fully enjoy the experience, travelers must be able to walk at least two miles a day (with or without a cane) over uneven terrain and keep pace with the group, as well as stand for extended periods during walking tours and museum visits. Western-style toilets may be unreliable outside major cities. Accommodations include locally rated five-star hotels in the capitals and a four-star hotel in a smaller town. Flexibility and a willingness to accept local service standards and amenities are essential.
