Cynthia M. Horne is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Western Washington University. Her research focuses on the political economy of post-communist states, with research tracks in globalization, development, and transitional justice. She has published three books and more than 30 articles on the post-communist region. She has been a visiting researcher at Corvinus University of Budapest (Fulbright-Hungary), Harvard University’s Davis Center, the Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies (Amsterdam), and the Centre for the Study of Democracy (Bulgaria), to name a few.  Working with academics at the National University of Mongolia in 2019, she conducted fieldwork in Ulaanbaatar and surrounding provinces on the topic of the impact of globalization on women's empowerment in Mongolia.
