Having taught at Venice, Strathclyde, Harvard, Wellesley, and Udine, Alide Cagidemetrio is Professor Emerita at the Università degli Studi di Venezia (Cà Foscari) where she served as Dean of Modern Languages and created and directed the Cà Foscari Harvard Summer School. She has published books on Djuna Barnes, American Western pioneers, and on Hawthorne and Melville’s Fictions of the Past, as well as numerous essays, and is editor of an extensive series of American classics. She currently teaches literature at NYU Abu Dhabi and is at work with Werner Sollors on Face to Face with Antiquity, examining visitors to global sites of antiquity.
