This summer a referendum purportedly revealed that the population accepts constitutional changes that allow Putin to rule until 2036 (when he will be in his early 80s). What does this tell us about Russia’s contemporary political situation and prospects? Is there no viable political opposition, or does Navalny’s poisoning remove the most likely alternative presidential candidate from the equation?
