What to Expect

Activity Level 3
  • 3-5 miles of walking per day, sometimes during the heat of the day, and at the sites of ancient ruins
  • Considerable walking up hills and on uneven cobblestone streets, and at the site of ancient ruins that have rocky, uneven terrain; some steep stairs without handrails, usually climbing 3-6 fights at a time
  • Long days of motorcoach travel and sightseeing. Motorcoach cannot park in city centers or at sites. Motorcoach will park and guests will need to walk about 4-6 blocks to get to the hotels or sites, on a daily basis. Ability to get on/off the motorcoach several times a day without assistance
  • Due to the historic nature of the hotel in Matera guests should mind the stairs around the building as well as in their room
  • This program would not be suitable for guests with mobility issues or guests who use walkers, scooters or rollators.
