During a two-night stay in Venice, discover the Doge's Palace, richly adorned with artistic masterpieces by Titian, Veronese, and Tintoretto. Marvel at the glittering mosaics of St. Mark's Basilica during a specially arranged private tour. Visit the early Renaissance chuch of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, sheathed inside and out with the finest marbles and porphyry. Spend two nights in Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and visit the medieval walled city of Mdina, Malta's old capital. In quaint Rabat, explore the newly re-opened Wignacourt Museum, which has a labyrinth of Hypogea, art galleries, and relics from the Knights of Malta. Also, see the Domus Romana, a first-century B.C.E. Roman house with exquisite mosaics. Discover the Neolithic Temple of Hagar Qim, one of the oldest freestanding temples in the world. At St. John's Co-Cathedral, view Caravaggio's masterpiece The Beheading of St. John the Baptist and see tapestries and armor at the Palace of the Grand Masters.
