The Harvard Alumni Association is pleased to offer alumni, students, faculty, staff, and guests a rare opportunity to attend an exclusive private screening and panel discussion of the much-anticipated film adaption of the beloved children's classic Where the Wild Things Are. Step into the imaginary adventures of Max, the King of All Wild Things, and explore the power of imagination and its translation to the wide screen. Distinguished professor Maria Tatar, Wicked author Gregory Maguire, and award-winning writer John Cech lead a lively literary discussion on this modern-day adaptation of the 1963, Caldecott Medal–winning picture book.

This screening and discussion launches Professor Tatar's new online course, "Through the Looking Glass: The History, Philosophy, and Literature of Childhood," a dynamic version of her popular undergraduate course, Childhood: Its History, Philosophy, and Literature. This program of study explores the revelatory power of childhood reading and classic children's tales through the works of such authors as Maurice Sendak, E. B. White, and Lois Lowry. Engage in a dynamic student discussion with alumni worldwide. Rediscover the Harvard classroom experience from home by taking a trip down the rabbit hole, into the wardrobe, and through the looking glass.
