Room 105

In this two-part series (Tuesday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 23), Professor Thomas Kelly discusses the first performance of Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni in Prague on October 29, 1797.
How much of what Mozart’s audience experience is also part of our own experience? Discussion will focus on the singers, the look of the theater, the company, and action. Musical moments will be studied in detail. We will consider the social situation in which a “dramma giocoso,” a story about a multiple seducer of women, can be funny.
