Global Month of Service
Join our 6th annual GMOS in April 2014!
“It is a fundamental purpose of the modern research university to develop talent in service of a better world. This commitment is at the heart of all we do….” – President Drew Faust, 2010 Harvard Commencement Address
April is Global Month of Service - a recognition and celebration of service to our local communities throughout the year, and an opportunity to highlight alumni engagement during the month of April. Whether it's by submitting a story to the HAA about your Club or SIG's long-term commitments, registering a volunteer activity, participating in an online service initiative, or holding a celebration for your Club or SIG's volunteers, we are calling on you to support this important worldwide initiative! Event registration will open in mid-March.
Spearheaded by the HAA’s Public Service Task Force, our Clubs and Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) network is identifying diverse volunteer opportunities for our alumni around the world. The HAA’s Global Month of Service is your chance to make a difference. Kick-off events in March will be posted to this page, as well as events throughout the month of April.
Past Activities have included:
- Hosting a college information session at a local high school
- Teaching a yoga class at a local retirement home
- Cleaning a riverbank
- Helping serve food at a local shelter
- Providing pro bono professional services
- Sorting donations for Goodwill
We are actively recruiting project leaders and volunteers to host events (please find a sample outreach letter here), and ask that once you've determined your service activity, date and time, you complete our registration survey. If you would like to be an event coordinator and have any ideas, questions, or concerns, please contact Lisa Unangst at firstname.lastname@example.org.
